When you sign up using Clerk authentication, we collect your name, email address, and profile information provided through your social account or email/password registration.
Chat & Conversation Data
All questions you ask and answers you receive are stored in our database associated with your user account. This allows us to provide chat history and improve your experience.
Usage Data
We track your daily question usage (up to your plan limit) locally in your browser using localStorage. This data never leaves your device unless explicitly synced.
Device & Browser Data
We may collect basic information such as browser type, device type, and IP address for security and performance purposes.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide, operate, and improve the Orbetric AI assistant service
  • Authenticate your identity and manage your account securely via Clerk
  • Store your chat history so you can access previous conversations
  • Enforce daily message limits based on your subscription plan
  • Generate AI-powered titles for your conversations
  • Route your questions to the appropriate AI model (Groq LLaMA, GPT-4o, Deepseek etc.)
  • Perform web searches on your behalf when you use Search or Deep Search mode
  • Improve our knowledge base and AI responses over time
  • Send important service-related notifications (no marketing without consent)

4. AI Models & Third-Party Services

Orbetric uses multiple third-party AI providers to generate responses. When you ask a question, your message may be sent to one or more of the following services depending on the model you select:

  • Groq (LLaMA 3.3) — groq.com — Your queries may be processed by Groq's infrastructure
  • OpenAI (GPT-4o Mini) — openai.com — Your queries may be processed by OpenAI's API
  • Tavily — tavily.com — Used for web search and deep search features
  • Clerk — clerk.com — Handles all authentication and user account management
  • MongoDB Atlas — mongodb.com — Stores your chat history and account data

Each third-party service has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review their policies. We do not sell your data to any third party.

5. Data Storage & Security

Your chat history and account data are stored securely in MongoDB Atlas (cloud database). Your conversation history is also cached locally in your browser's localStorage for fast access.

We implement industry-standard security measures including:

  • TLS/SSL encryption for all data in transit
  • Secure authentication managed by Clerk with industry-standard encryption
  • Each user's data is isolated — you can only access your own conversations
  • API keys and secrets are stored securely as environment variables, never exposed client-side

6. Data Retention

We retain your chat history and account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete a conversation, it is permanently removed from our database. If you close your account, we will delete all associated data within 30 days.

localStorage data (such as your daily usage counter and local chat history) is stored entirely on your device and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction — Request correction of inaccurate personal data
  • Deletion — Request deletion of your account and all associated data
  • Portability — Request your chat history in a portable format
  • Restriction — Request that we limit how we process your data
  • Objection — Object to certain uses of your personal data

8. Cookies & Local Storage

Orbetric uses browser localStorage (not traditional cookies) to store:

  • Your daily question usage count and reset time
  • Your recent chat sessions for fast history access

Clerk (our authentication provider) may set session cookies necessary for keeping you logged in. These are strictly necessary and cannot be disabled while using the service.

9. Guest Users

If you use Orbetric without signing in (guest mode), you are allowed up to 3 free messages. Guest messages are processed through our AI pipeline but are not permanently stored in your account. Your usage counter as a guest is tracked locally in your browser only.

10. Children's Privacy

Orbetric is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. When we make significant changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Orbetric after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
